“Who’s Your Father” – 1 John 2:28-3:10 – SERIES: Light and Love

How can you tell what a person values?  In the early 1900’s some thought that you could tell by the shape of your head, others by the way you write, or by the shape of your face.  The only proven way to tell what someone really values is to look at their behavior.  Join us as John encourages the faithful in Asia to take a close look at their lives and see if they are like Christ.  We are God’s children, and because we are God’s children and his seed remains in us, our behavior should reflect him.   Sermon originally preached on April 14, 2013.

“The Liars” – 1 John 2:18-27 – SERIES: Light and Love

Two of my heroes growing up went on to leave the Christian faith!  Let me rephrase.  They not only left the faith, they became missionaries for atheism and even satanism.  I am sure that I am not alone.  Maybe you have met people that seemed to be Christians, but then just walked away.  What are we supposed to think about this.  John had to deal with the same thing in his ministry.  Some of his spiritual children in the faith walked away, and they didn’t just walk away, they began to spew error.  Join us as we see how John deals with these people both theologically and practically.   Sermon originally preached on April 7, 2013.

“Spotting the Fake” – 1 John 2:3-11 – SERIES: Light and Love

You ever wonder how the appraisers on The Antique Road Show are able to spot the fake.  Well . . . it is because they know the signs of authenticity.  If the signs are there, the article is genuine.  If the signs aren’t . . . you know the rest.  John says the same thing is true about the believer.  Genuine believers will exhibit marks of authenticity.  One of those marks will be sincere, sacrificial, and whole-hearted love.  Join us as we examine these few verses and see if this type of love marks our lives!   Sermon originally preached on March 17, 2013.

“Something Worth Sharing” – 1 John 1:1-4 – SERIES: Light and Love

I wish I could say that everybody in the whole world had a correct view of Jesus and the gospel, but it just ain’t so!!  Many people, even people that we have had relationships with, believe wrong things about Jesus.  The Apostle John struggled with this in his very own churches.  People who were not only believing false things about Jesus, but teaching others this error as well!!  Join us as we embark on a study of how John encourages the faithful, while at the same time cutting these false teachers off at the knees.  Sermon originally preached on March 3, 2013.

“24/7” – Romans 13:8-12 – SERIES: Godly Stewardship

When we think of our own resources, we normally think in terms of cashola, but when the Bible talks about stewardship it goes far beyond just our money.  It encompasses our time, our talent, our mind, our speech and much more.  Join us as we discover how we can use our time and other resources for the glory of God!  Sermon originally preached on February 19, 2013.

“The Gift of a Gift” – 1 Cor. 4:1-11 – SERIES: Godly Stewardship

We all rejoice (and understandably so) when someone becomes a new believer.  What we often forget about in the joy is that a new child is always a huge responsibility.  The presence of a baby bets a question, “Who is going to nurture this child.”  I believe that Scriptures answer is that it the entire community of faith’s responsibility.  Join us as we discover HOW each of us is a minister and how we can use our gifts to help others grow.  Sermon originally preached on February 12, 2013.
